Week 3 Project Run and Play - design your own fabric...

Its week 3 over at Project Run and Play and its "Design your own fabric" week.
I am ALWAYS having a lot of fun with Project Run and Play but this challenge was SUPER fun.
Arthur has a certain style and I love that about him. Not only that but he LOVES it if I sew for him. He asked me the other day if I can teach him to sew and you know what - I am going to buy a sewing machine for my boy and teach him and let him be creative.

Taking pictures with him is also a LOT easier than with a 3 year old. We got up early Saturday morning while dad and sister is still asleep and headed on over to the basketball courts to get some pictures. That is our special time together - weekends early in the morning while the other 2 are still sleeping....
He Loves his skateboard and so the clothes I sew for him needs to be comfy enough for skateboarding.
He is such a thinker
Showing me his Yoga pose

The Pants:
I used the Small Fry Skinny Jeans Pattern and if you are looking for a great jeans pattern this is your pattern. It wasn't a fast sew but it is a great quality pattern that produces some pretty adorable pants. I chose to make Capri's so he has some protection over his knees but not too long if it is hot. I added a slanted inlay at the bottom of the pants to show off the design of the fabric. orange zipper and made an orange belt and diamond detail on the back pocket.
Design of the fabric. I used a black and white Painty marker and drew lines a quarter of an inch apart over all of the fabric before cutting the pattern pieces. It ended up not too bad at all and I managed to line up the lines on most places. the lines runs horizontally across the pants but I made the bottom inlay so it runs diagonally and the seam where the two pieces join also runs diagonally.

The Shirt:
I made a recessed sleeve shirt with a button placket and a black pocket. For the sleeves I used my serger to make decorative serger stitching on top over the seam with orange thread.

I took a picture of him on the skateboard and created a silhouette on Photoshop elements

I then cut out the silhouette on freezer paper and ironed him to the front panel of the shirt and sprayed around him with Tulip fabric paint. The back panel was just sprayed with the white paint. It came out pretty cool.

The Slouchy Beanie,

I used the GRAHAM Hat Pattern to knit this beanie. Great easy pattern that I definetely will be doing for him and me.

I kid you not as I am lying down on my belly taking pictures he comes and sits right in front of me and this is what he says......

I appreciate and love this boy ,
Till next time

Boy Meets Girl...... the Beachy Boatneck FLIP

Its March Flip this pattern time at Frances suzanne and this month is the Beachy boatneck from blank slate Patterns which is a great gender neutral pattern.

Both the kids are very into skateboarding so I added a boy girl on a skateboard on the front panels ( you might notice it is the girl and boy that I have as my logo which in reality is Arthur and Isabella (ARTBELLA)) I used the same method I used with the Lego Pillows  It holds up really well in the wash Arthur's was already washed because he couldn't wait to wear it .

 The Flip:

After I cut out the pattern I ironed the images on and then sewed their clothes on as well as their mouths.
I love the neckline and used bias binding made with knit fabric instead of a lining. Both were color blocked. Isabella's sleeves were widened quite a bit and added elastic to make a puffy sleeve.Arthur's is just like the pattern with the rounded bottom. For Bella's I shortened at the middle and added a bubble skirt.

all the fabric I used are from Girl Charlee

We went for a walk at Lime Ridge open space that is just a short walk from our house and the hills are turning a beautiful green after the nice rain we've had.

I hope you enjoy all the pictures......

I joined something very exciting this week. I joined  Pattern Member over at THE SEWING RABBIT.  Go Read all about IT. I love new patterns and it is a nice sewing community for advice and tips and showing off what you make.

and I finally have a Facebook page. If you want you can like me

Week 2 : Let's go to the MOVIES!

Hi everyone,  It is week 2 of  Project Run and Play. and it is Let's go to the Movies week!!!

as you can see I chose Bonnie and Clyde. I have always been very interested in this couple who robbed banks. The fact that I have two beautiful children one of each made this the perfect choice. I sew mostly for Bella but Arthur gets so excited if I sew for him so I really have to include him more.
What a fun week. I had so much fun planning this outfit and the kids couldn't wait till I was finished so they could put it on.

The color scheme I chose was brown in orange. My movie inspiration was the 1967 Bonnie and Clyde with Warren Beatty and Faye Dunaway........

Clyde's Outfit: Pants: Number 9 trousers from Gotopatterns I added pockets with flaps on the sides and a strap with buckle on the side and an additional zipper pocket on the other side. the back has pockets as well. My kids loves pockets so he is very happy about that.
T-Shirt: the tshirt is the recess raglan pattern from Gotopatterns and I use this pattern constantly.
Vest: is the bbc vest from Shwin designs. I didnt make any changes to this - I absolutely love the look of this vest and thought that was dapper enough for Clyde.
Hat: is the Fedora Hat pattern. I wish I had a better suiting fabric for but the linen I had worked fine.

I made a tie from a fat quarter I had in my stash with browns and oranges.

Bonnie's Outfit: skirt was selfdrafted with pockets and a funky inlay in the front.
Shirt: is also the recess raglan but I made the sleeves wider and added some elastic around the wrists.
The hat was just a self-drafted hat made with felt rectangles to resemble Faye's hat in the movie. I also made a orange brocade scarf for around her neck that she likes to hold around a month just like a bank robber.

As we entered the open space a couple was on their way back and immediately asked if they were Bonnie and Clyde. Well mission accomplished I think.

They really lived themselves into the roles and we were exhausted and so full of dust by the end.
Fun was had by us all!

I love how the pants turned out.

I hope you had fun looking at the pictures - we sure had fun taking them.

Boy jacket and w pants

I have got no idea how I finished this outfit in time for September Flip this pattern but I did.
I ended up finishing the jacket today and making the pants. I had full intention to sew a whole outfit but things were just kinda crazy the past few weeks. Arthur really needs a wind jacket that is not too hot but will work for cool and windy mornings to school.I had this color blocked jacket in mind with string in the bottom.

Confession - I hate the fabric. It is sporty tent type fabric but it was ugly to work with.(my opinion) and maybe I shouldn't have used it on a pattern that I had changed for the first time. I ended up stopping halfway but then Arthur pulled it on and he was in love and really wanted me to finish it- and so Mommy did and then also sewed up the pants so I at least have bottoms with the jacket :).

I used the w shorts pattern and added pockets on the back and one side pocket with a sling.

The back pockets have a A on it for Arthur.
