Project Run and Play Winter Wonderland Challenge

 

 

It's that time again. Time for Project Run and Play  and it is Season 8. This is only my Second season that I am sewing along. Last Season I only managed two outfits and hoping my time management is a bit better this time around.

 

 

 

 

 

Week 1 is Winter Wonderland Challenge.....

 

 

We live in the East Bay area in California so winter for us doesn't necessarily mean below zero temperatures but we do have Winter and it is wonderful. We have to layer so this is what I tried to accomplish.

 

First I decided what I was going to make and next came.......

 

 

 

 I loved how all the fabrics came together with a wide variety of colors and textures.

It was all about pink,grey and white.

 

1.Polka dot Jacket: I bought the fleece a while ago and finally got to use it for her jacket. I just used one of her shirts to draw a pattern and circular cut for the two frills at the bottom of the jacket.It is easy to take on and off and when closed it is nice and warm if needed.

2. Recess Raglan T-shirt  made with pink and white knit from Girl Charlee . The snowflake was cut and attached with Pellon EZ steam (fabric also fom Girl Charlee) and top stitched!

3. the pants I used this wonderful grey suiting fabric and the drape is just perfect. I used the number 9 trousers from Shwindesigns  to cut the pants.I did widen the pant leg quite a bit at the bottom, Added a seam for drawstrings made with elastic so she can tighten it up around boots if we do head out to snowy weather at Lake Tahoe! I also moved the pockets from the back to the sides and added a zipper on the one side for snack money. I added some funky retro fabric with white bias binding on the bottom sides.

4.Felt hat with flower - I used This felt hat-how-to for a quick, cute winter hat.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

for the first time since Ive had the blog we actually got in the car and headed out in the morning to get some pictures  in the open space between walnut Creek and Concord! .Miss Bella had quite some fun running around in the dust! and the weather was just perfect.

 

 

To get a nice smile picture is not happening yet but I've learned to just appreciate these funny faces to make it enjoyable for both of us!

Hi there readers,

wow this time of the year is crazy with sewing for Christmas but no time for blogging. I completed quite a few things the past few weeks just haven't posted. Last month I sewed a flip creation but just didn't have time to post it but here I am determined to be in time for the December flip this Pattern over at Frances Suzanne of the Number 9 trousers by Shwin Designs

 

It is a great pattern and one I would use again for both Arthur and Isabella.

For the flip I cut off the pattern right underneath the side pockets, straightened out the inner leg seams and made a little bubble ruffle skirt for Miss Bella. I finished it just in time for her to wear to her preschool Christmas program and also some pics with Santa in town.

 

the ruffles are one 1inch ruffle followed by two 2inch ruffles and then finished off with 2 3 inch ruffles.

 

 

 

 I used red denim thread to accent all the topstitching!

A Sunki.....Halloween......Birthday Witch!

It's been a while but nonetheless here I am...

This week was all about multitasking one outfit. Miss Bella is turning 3 today....

 

HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO MY SWEET LITTLE WITCH!!!!!

 

 

The plan for this week was to do my October FLIP over at Frances Suzanne  because why would I not join in on the fun - I am addicted! The pattern for October was the SUNKI from Figgy's Patterns. It was my first and hopefully not my last. I really like the fit and look of the pattern so I have to sew one without flipping it. So why not go ahead and sew a birthday party outfit and a Halloween costume using this month's flip Pattern.( she is having a Halloween Birthday party ) It worked out great and even though it is her costume all the pieces are versatile that she can use on any day of the week minus the hat of course but who doesn't like to play dress up?

It's one of my kids favorites ever since we saw the movie at a neighbor's house. Isabella really wanted to be a witch since seeing it so she was our inspiration for Bella's costume.

 

 

 

The Sunki pattern I shortened the pattern and added a circle skirt. Underneath is a separate skirt made with black net ( 2 layers of circle net with black elastic - she likes to use it as her ballerina skirt.
The leggings are go-to-leggings - oh so easy and very comfy. I see myself sewing up a few for the season. One pattern piece!!!!



I even got a nice pose out of her....

Now for the little cape. It is made from the Audrey cape tutorial   over at Simple Simon and Co.
I absolutely love it. Super easy and easy just to throw around Isabella's shoulder in the winter till we get inside a building over the winter without having to struggle with a jacket on a little girl who doesn't want to wear a jacket. I am thinking one with a hood will be super cute too.

Mad for Plaid

 

It is Week 3 over at Project Run and Play and the theme is MAD for PLAID!       two things came up when I think of plaid and that is a nice plaid winter coat or 70's style plaid bell bottoms. California weather doesn't really lend itself to a nice plaid winter coat so I went with the 70's bell bottoms - My shirt idea was to create something that involve basket weave technique of canvas belt strips to create a plaid effect. I found a black and white plaid with thin turquoise blue and bright pink stripes. It was easy enough to find the same color belt strips in black white, pink at turquoise over at Joann's.   I constructed my own pattern for the top with some pleats at the bottom. Wide sleeves with plaid at the bottom with white buttons.   For the pants I used my favorite KID Shorts pattern - lengthened it and made it waaaaay wide. I sewed a little pintuck on the middle front of the pant legs to add some 70's flair :) and two welt pockets right on the heinie!

 

 

Today was one of those days where whatever I tried it just wasn't a good picture day with miss Bella.

First she didn't want to wear her black boots ( which she loves) but instead her Kitty shoes which I let her.  She was all over the place. Lesson learned - Do it early in the morning or wait for tomorrow morning!

Boy jacket and w pants

 

 

 I have got no idea how I finished this outfit in time for September Flip this pattern but I did.

I ended up finishing the jacket today and making the pants. I had full intention to sew a whole outfit but things were just kinda crazy the past few weeks. Arthur really needs a wind jacket that is not too hot but will work for cool and windy mornings to school.I had this color blocked jacket in mind with string in the bottom.

 

Confession - I hate the fabric. It is sporty tent type fabric but it was ugly to work with.(my opinion) and maybe I shouldn't have used it on a pattern that I had changed for the first time. I ended up stopping halfway but then Arthur pulled it on and he was in love and really wanted me to finish it- and so Mommy did and then also sewed up the pants so I at least have bottoms with the jacket :).

 

I used the w shorts pattern and added pockets on the back and one side pocket with a sling.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 The back pockets have a A on it for Arthur.

 

 

 

Candy Inspired.......

 This is my very first time that  I am joining in on the PROJECT RUN AND PLAY fun. I really wanted to join the week 1 challenge but the time just wasn't there. week 2 is all about candy inspiration. I have been wanting to use cording on a future project and thus came the inspiration to use twizzlers as my candy of choice. the dress is a self drafted pattern from one of Bella's shirts. I added the cording to mimic the twists of a twizzler, added some cap sleeves and added a bubble on the bottom to complete the twizzle effect.
