Bubbles for Bella....

I know, iknow its been too long. Lots of things has happened that I will not bore you with  but I am back after a move from Walnut Creek,CA to Paducah, Kentucky. And what better way to get back into the swing of things than my January entry for Project Run and Play . This year they are doing some different and fun(as always).Each month features a contestant from before with a favorite pattern and/or tutorial and you get inspired by them for your look. (Copy it or do your own version)This month is the fabulous Alida from Alida makes . Go check out her blog there is some seriously cute sewing going on there.

I love the bubble idea and I ended up making a Bubble dress, Bubble sleeve jacket and a bubble flower hat.....

 One thing that has been wonderful after the move is a photo shoot with Miss Bella is a lot easier than last year. Just look at her throwing poses...

 Here is the Dress:

the first thing I did was use my machines free motion quilting foot for the first time and made some circles with red and beige thread for the bodice. This was my first project where I only used block patterns and drafted both patterns by myself. I extended the shoulders to give it a bit of a cap sleeve. It is big enough so that she can still wear a shirt underneath for the winter and just as is for the summer. I added wood buttons on the back and lined it on the inside. I created my bubble by just doing a a-line lining on the inside and making the outside skirt wider and longer.The Charcoal chambray is from Rachel over at Imagine Gnats  I can get lost there. She has some beautiful fabrics.

 The jacket is lined inside with shweshwe fabric from South Africa and I made the sleeves the same way I did the skirt part of the dress. I extended the back of the jacket in a semicircle. The collar I made some trim from vegan Leather from Girl Charlee ( love that stuff) I used a lot of camsnaps ( on the jacket and also for the pockets on the dress.

I had to add a hat and used a felt hat tutorial from the Martha Stewart website and again used the vegan leather for the outside. The flower and the inside of the hat is made from double gauze from the  Imagine Gnats shop.
